Well, temperatures are dropping, school is back in session and bonfire season is upon us. This is my favorite time of year, partially because my favorite holiday is coming up.... Halloween! I know a lot of you are like me and share a love of everything creepy, mysterious and out of the ordinary. I have been working the past few days to create Halloween decorations that incorporate just that.
I created these projects with a an assortment of vintage apothecary bottles, children's books, old toys and games (hence scrabble letters, an old snow globe, etc..) and my favorite tool... the internet! There is an awesome website, www.dafont.com where you can download unique fonts for FREE. I use this all the time to find one of a kind fonts for projects. I googled "magic spells", "Hocus Pocus" (my favorite Halloween movie) and "halloween labels", then got to work on creating creepy labels and spell pages to mod podge to the decor.
With so many supplies available at the craft store, along with things you have at home, you can definitely find a unique way to decorate for Halloween. Think outside the box - look at old pots, vases, books, keys and jars you have laying around the house. The dirtier, the better! Below I am attaching a sheet of bottle labels that you can print out and use for Halloween projects. Don't forget to distress them! It really adds a lot more character and accuracy to the look of the final piece. You can purchase paper that already looks distressed at the craft store. To distress paper yourself, try different techniques including tea, coffee, rubbing an ink pad over the edges, tearing the edges or dry brushing brown paint on the edges.
